GENERAL APPEARANCE:

Good proportions with smooth outlining which shows quality, gracefulness and harmony.

Together with another substance, which leads to impression, that the dog does persistent work.

Any tendency to ungainliness or deficiency is unwanted. The rich amount of fur, colour and in particular the long bosky tail, which gives this dogs elegance and mythical look. It should remind of its ancestors the Borzoi, Ibizan Hound, the manned and Ethiopian wolf.

PURPOSE

The Krahviik Dogs were originally bred for persistent working and still do. However, because of their loyalty, which they developed through the breeding process, they are nowadays often seen in the protection rings

in dog clubs.

 

HEAD

Profile as well as from the front. The head should resemble a wolf like looking dog. A long built and smooth tapering to the nose. Length and width should be proportional to the length and width of the torso.

The length of the muzzle is a bit longer than the braincase. A special characteristic is the high set forehead with a nice angle to the muzzle.

The top of the head flat but ascending to the back of the head.

 

CRANIAL REGION:

Skull: Narrow but whither than the muzzle; seen from above: Slightly elongated into an oval shape; seen in profile; broader and oval shaped.

Stop: Well marked.

 

FACIAL REGION:

Nose: Small, mobile, considerably prominent in relation to the lower jaw, pointed downwards

Muzzle: Sturdy, medium length, thin and foxy. The length of the muzzle from the stop to the tip of the nose is equal or slightly inferior to that of the skull, from the occiput to the stop.

Lips: Fine, clean, well fitting. The eye-rims, the lips and the nose are black whatever the colour of the coat.

Jaw/Teeth: Strong under jaw. Teeth white, strong; scissor bite or pincer bite.

Eyes: Large, not prominent, expressive, ice blue or light blue-green eyes. Almond-shaped with a little bit slit-eyed, set slightly obliquely.

Ears: Large, erect ears, set above the eye level, carried upright, pointed and with the auricle facing forward.

Tipped ears and dropping ears are faulty. Ears carried rearward when moving or in relaxed position are not faulty.

 

NECK:

Long, clean, consistent laterally, muscled,  slightly arched

 

BODY:

Withers: Not marked

Back: Narrow (females are slimmer), muscled, straight.

Croup: Slight slope down from the croup to the root of tail.

Chest: Not very deep, extending down and ends above the elbow.

Belly: Well tucked up, the underline rises abruptly towards the abdomen.

 

TAIL: Thick and very long. Tail is equal the length of the dogs body. Slightly passed between the hind legs. Tail should be carried raised in movement and stack, but not above the level of the back.

 

LIMBS

FOREQUARTERS:

General appearance: Fore legs clean, muscled but thin. seen form the front perfectly straight and parallel. The height of the forelegs from the elbow to the ground is equal or a little superior to the length from the elbow to the shoulders. Females have longer and thinner legs than males, in general.

Shoulders: Shoulders blades are long and oblique.

Upper arm: Moderately oblique; its length is superior to the length of the shoulder blades. Angle of the scapular-humeral articulation well pronounced.

Elbow: In parallel planes to the median plane of the body.

Forearm:  Clean, long, of oval cross-section; seen from the front, narrow seen in profile broader.

Pastern: Slightly oblique in relation to the ground.

 

HINDQUARTERS:

General appearance: Seen from behind: straight, parallel, set equal to the forequarters. When the dog is standing naturally, the vertical line dropping from the point of buttocks must pass in front of the centre of the hock joint and the rear pastern.

Upper thigh: Well muscled, long, placed obliquely

Lower thigh: Long, muscled, placed obliquely. The stifle joints (Knee) and the hock joints well developed, broad, clean; the angles must be well marked.

Rear pastern: Not long, placed almost vertically. All joints are well angulated.

 

FEET: Lean, narrow, oval shaped; toes arched, tight.

 

GAIT/ MOVEMENT: Males move wolf like. Head is faces down and they walk massive but still looking effortless and supple. Female walk gracefully, supple and lifting. The neck is placed high and the head again faces more down but not as much as the males.For both genders, the tail should be carried raised in movement, but not above the level of the back.For working purpose, both genders move the same way. Hound-like running moves for persistent hunting.

 

STACK: Males stand sturdy with a low pose, wolfe like. Females keep their neck and head raised high and the front legs are standing close together. The tail again for both genders is carried raised.

 

COAT

HAIR: Silky, soft and supple. Not wavy or any kinds of curls. On the ears and limbs, the hair is satiny (silky but heavier), short, close lying. On the rest of the body the hair is long. On the skull between the ears the hair is longer and grows longer from their till the of the neck. Cheeks also have longer hair to look uniform to the necks hair. Chest hair is as long as the neck hair but grows shorter to the belly. Under arm and upper thighs have slightly longer hair then the rest of the body. The feathering of the tail is as long as the hair around the neck.

COLOUR:

All colour combinations, but never the colours brindle and merle. Sables and Saddle Patterns are allowed.

Allowed foundation colours: Ved (Black), Sot (White), Prun (Red/Brown), Bii (Blue), Peyt (Lilac). Gaaf (Albino White) can appear in some litters with almost or complete white colored parents. Gaaf Krahviiks should never be breed with another Gaaf Krahviik or if it has the tendency (Gaaf in the pedigree) for it.

Short hair Krahviiks are preferable to be seen with Zein (Bicolor), Zed (Tricolor) and Zokra (Solid) and with the combinations of Omnu (Piebald) or Klov (White Head).

Long hair Krahviiks are allowed to be seen with Grohiik (Wolf), Ilit (Fox), Kaviir (Rabbit), Klov (White Head), Omnu (Piebald), Sed (Bicolor) and Zein (Tricolor).

Working Krahviiks, short and long hair, can have any colour and pattern.

Black pigmentation, that looks like a strip between the eyes and reaching to the nose and the front skull.

 

SIZE:

dogs: 75 - 85

bitches: 73 - 80

 

FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.
